Erik the Red was born in Norway in 950 a.d and he died in 1000 a.d. EriK the Red
was a viking of Norway and he was thefirst person to discover a settlement in
Greenland. He was nicknamed for the color of his hair (head, beard), Erik was
banished from his kingdom around 982a.d for killing two men. For a long time,
aprox. three years he sailed about and around Greenland and he explored more
parts of it. In 986 a.d he left Icelandwith atleast 20 ships and about 450 people.
He arrived in Greenland with around 14 boats and an estimated 350 people to
establish a colony. Eventually thesettlement disappeared, now alot of explorers
wanted to colonize it. Erik the Red's son was Leif Ericson, who went on to
become one of the first Europeansto sail to North America. Erik the Red
eventually died in Greenland.
